Pablo Neruda, his life and his battles, his political activity inside Communist Party and his poems are the subject of this site.
Neruda is, in fact, not only a poet, but also a person that spent all his lifetime fighting for peace, justice and equality, in a way so full, strong and sincere that his home was destroyed by the rough soldiers of the ignoble augusto pinochet. (You can find more about this in Neruda BIO, at your left).
WHY ISLAINFINITA
Hi. My name is Michele
Metta.
I am an artist. I am author of poems and short-stories. I am a playwright and director. I am found of
photography and digital art.
In 2002, I published my
free book "Tutti i silenzi che servono per
poter dire la parola amore" (it means
"All the silences we need to say the
world love"), thanks to Arte
Tipografica. They are the same that, in
1952, published "Los versos del
capitán", the poems that Neruda
dedicated to his new love: Matilde Urrutia.
Mine is not a fortuitous choice,
considering that my book is a gift I made
to commemorate this greatest Chilean
poet - there is also an Ode to Pablo Neruda in there, that you can read belove - a gift I decided to extend creating Islainfinita, a "place" where not only meet an analytic analysis of Pablo Neruda life and lecterature.
It's the root the need, the will, the dream to create an event like DONAMI LE ALI (GIVE ME YOUR WINGS) came from; an event to share Neruda's way of life; in which to meet the same kind of stories Neruda would to talk about today: violations against Human Rights at Guantanamo, Iraq wars, multinationals' abuses, and so on. An event where art and justice walk together thanks to great witnesses of our times telling facts forgotten, distorted or even censured by the majority of our medias: Mauro Bulgarelli, Mimmo Calopresti, Felice Casson, Anais Ginori, Alessandra Magrini, Andrea Purgatori, Roberto Scardova, Maurizio Torrealta, Francesco Trento, Moni Ovadia, Elena Vanni, Umberto Zona, together with great actors and musicians: Andrea Alberti, Nicola Alesini, Giorgio Caputo, Filippo Gatti, Evelina Meghnagi, Carla Marcotulli, Max Paiella, Johnny Palomba, Ivan Segreto, Lidia Vitale. All united to struggle against injustices; the same will for which i thought, wrote, lived these words:
Ode to Pablo
Neruda
Pablo,
God created everything,
and you afterwards,
since yours
the only voice
able to explain
the beauty of His works.
Chilean male,
at your death
the vertical dignity of the
sea cried out your end,
and plants' green
consistency,
and every river, upset,
stopping.
My teacher,
my friend,
inside that day
falling down like a shaken
fruit,
only an august jerky
could spend his strength
to the filthy misery
of smearing your property
to the poor infamy
of dirtying your poetry.
But you live in the stones,
Pablo,
in the ballast,
along the rainy railways'
eternity,
and in the food,
in the fragments,
in the bones,
in the churches,
at the bottom of those
kisses
hunting for the sweat.
True Araucanian,
you know the desperation
of the one who sees
shadows of injured light
killing his rest,
and you are in the
inspiration
of the one who feels
the growing grass
has its own breath.
My brother,
compañero,
some fellow divide
the communist from the
poet:
they are the same that,
of a path
keep distinct the odd from
the even stride,
and get apart
the systolic move from the
diastolic beat of the heart.
Pablo,
my Pablo,
you soaked words into the
ocean
and dried them upon your
pages.
From your verses
an entire ring of galaxies
relieves me,
from your strophes
starts the blonde hamper of
the Sun's melody.
PODCASTING
Fascinated by iTunes'
opportunities, I'm using this software by
Apple for Mac and PC to create my own
podcast, called "A cuore nudo" (it
means "Naked heart"), to say my no to abuses of power, injustices and fascism. Here it is an example.
You can suscribe, absolutely for free,
directely through iTunes, of course, (please, select here if you want to do so), or any another RSS
aggregator. My "RSS feed" is:
Pablo Neruda loved solidarity: in 1939, he saved two thousand Spanish antifascist refugees, 300 were the children; he did it again in 1947, unmasking the President of Chile Gabriel González Videla’s violent policy against miners, something because of that the poet was obliged to escape from his Country to avoid prison. Today, solidarity is something governments all over the World talk about as much as they do not practice it. Fortunately, there are a lot of little groups that are able to do a lot, as Neruda in person demonstrated. So they are Watoto Kenya, association trying to use all their best efforts in order to assure living, medical care for children there. But first of all, instruction, because they agree with the point of view that if you give a fish to a needy, it means food for a day, but if this needy apprehends to use a fishing-rod, it means food for ever
For Watoto Kenya, in 1996, I created, absolutely for free, a calendar, that La Repubblica kindly decided to publish on their internet pages too.
This year, I decided to help the same way another beautiful association of Rome called ASTA, interested in helping abandoned animals to became loved pets at selected families. This calendar too was published by La Repubblica, as you can see here.
ART GALLERY
Pablo Neruda wanted with all his strength the creation of a Foundation.
Principal goal of this Foundation had had to be that of being a place to help other artists to continue their activity.
Unfortunately, his will was totally betrayed by the president of this foundation, as i show you in the section CANTALAO at your left.
So, I do really believe I have the duty to respect this spirit at least here. Thanks to the marvellous gift of esteem that some friend decided to give me, I will shelter, inside the section called ART GALLERY (at your left too), some of their works.
The first gallery you can find there is Everestelle's, a girl that, in every single corner of whatever she does puts sincerity, sensuality and empathy. Because of its mature content her gallery is for an adult audience. Her images are together with words from a poem of mine. "Her website is Ever and Co. Please, visit it. It's simply wonderful.
The second one is by Voldan Van Reihan, a really excellent drawer. This vision is without restrictions. He has two sites, V. V. Reihan on dA, and also Essence. Very nice.
Erina Marianty's is the third one. Erina is a speldid woman from Jacarta, that can enrich every single photo with her presence. Her site is here
poprage's is the forth. He is a photographer justly proud of his works and his country, Palestine, a land without an essential right, arbitrarily denied: independence. That is the reason why we too are extremely proud to have his photos here. His pages are this, and Moonfruit. Pure intensity.
The latest is by an Italian girl, Sara Apone, an extremly versatile drawer and painter: she can produce artworks for children with the same craft she is able to paint incredibly strong subject. To visit her site, please, push here.
Other artists gave their assent. I am going to insert them as soon as possible.
SOCIAL
Social wants to be a place to denunce, similar to my podcast "A cuore nudo".
They are the images sent me by the extremely kind boy Gerardo Espíndola, a Chilean who lives in the Arica Region, cto start this section. His wonderful pictures he took in Santiago show us the happiness because of pinochet's death, the horrible fascist dictator. It is anyway so much important to stress that, in his gallery he puts also a very emotional picture on 119 victims of pinochet's repression and tortures. In fact, I just can not stop following the super important words of Isabel, who said:
Pinochet was the head of the worst dictatorship in all Chilean hitory.
Trials must continue. No chapter ends with this death: not that of truth, nor that of justice, neither that of responsibility.
This is a very painful situation, since never there was a verdict, something that we all do desire
After Espíndola's images, there is movie I made about the 3500 children unfortunately beaten to death every single year on Earth.
I have to greatly thank Magnatune, for allowing me to use, absolutely free of charge, a track by Jami Sieber just because they understood and subscribed with the importance of the message inside that movie.
Founded in 2003, Magnatune is an independent,
online record label that hand selects its own artists, sells its
catalog of music through online downloads and print-on-demand CDs and
licenses music for commercial and non-commercial use. Based on the
principle that "we are not evil", the company offers fair-trade music
to consumers by equally sharing all revenue from the sale of albums
with artists and allowing artists to retain full rights to their
compositions.
For further information, and for other incredibly nice music, please visit the Magnatune website: MAGNATUNE.COM. Thank you.
Another gallery shown inside SOCIAL is made by some of the images against war and impositions of an absolutely talented artist, Leon Kuhn. I do highly recommend to visit his site full of a lot of other images rich in intelligence, cleverness and courage.
Alessandro Ciccarelli, Italian, is insteed the talented photographer who shows us the intense beauty and importance of a march to ask for Peace in Lebanon. You can find other picture taken by him visiting here.
David Boardman, again an Italian, gives us the gift of Chilean landscapes that, through our eyes go directly inside our breath. Please, visit his site.
